The Lake Windermere Whiteway is located in the beautiful Columbia Valley in British Columbia, Canada. In 2014, the Whiteway won the world record for the longest skating trail boasting almost 30 KM (29.98 kms) of ice skating as well as groomed skate and classic ski trails.
The Whiteway offers winter sports enthusiasts an unbeatable winter experience. The beautiful skating path adds to the already abundant list of winter activities available in the stunning Columbia Valley on the warm side of the Rockies. The Whiteway was born from the efforts of a few dedicated locals and came to fruition in 2006 by the Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club. While using the Whiteway (or other Toby Creek Nordic Facilities) remember to pay your trail fees ($5/person).
The Whiteway connects the communities along Lake Windermere during the winter months. It offers 3 access points: one at Kinsmen beach in Invermere, one at the Invermere Bayshore Condos in Invermere, and one at Windermere beach in Windermere. The Lake Windermere Whiteway is closest to our Fairmont Hot Springs properties; the quickest way to get out on the lake is access through Windermere Public Beach.
For more skating opportunities, check out the Lake Lillian Whiteway located just outside of Invermere. This small lake boasts a beautiful skating path along the shore, offering views of the Purcell Mountains and is a quick 15-minute drive from our Panorama vacation rentals.
