Ice Fishing
Get your fish on year round in the Columbia Valley!
Get out on the lake this winter! About mid-December, you’ll start to see the fishing huts appear on Lake Windermere and Columbia Lake – both of which are only minutes away from our Fairmont Vacation Rentals and between a 20-40 minute drive from our Panorama Mountain Resort accommodations.
Ice Fishing On a Frozen Lake
Windermere Lake is one of the most popular lakes in all of southeastern British Columbia, and for good reason. The recreational opportunities are endless and the fishing is fabulous. There are bass, rainbow trout, rocky mountain whitefish, and char ready to catch. The lake is quite shallow, so if you are in an ice shack, it makes a great day of fishing when you can see your catch bite your bait!
The nearest ice fishing access point to our Fairmont Hot Springs vacation rentals is Windermere Public Beach, a 10 minute drive away. From the beach, you'll be able to spot local ice shacks lining the finest fishing spots! If you're lucky, you can watch bald eagles seeking a tasty lunch from the fisherman on the lake.
Lake Lillian is a small and scenic lake located less than 15 minutes from our Panorama properties. Try your hand at reeling in a bull trout, brook trout, or cutthroat trout. While out on Lake Lillian, enjoy the beautiful nordic skiing and skating trails.
Lake Lillian is closest to our Panorama properties and makes for the perfect day trip or afternoon adventure.
Whiteswan Lake, 45 minutes from Fairmont Hot Springs on Hwy #93/95, is another great fishing spot which is near the Lussier Hot Springs – a winning combination for a great day! It is known for record rainbow trout and stunning, peaceful scenery.
Fishing License
To fish in the Columbia Valley, a BC Fishing License is required. These licenses can be easily purchased online here. Remember to keep your license with you while you're out on the lake!
Lake Windermere Ambassadors
When you are out on the Lake, look for the Lake Windermere Ambassadors who continue to look for creative ways to engage winter users of Lake Windermere, using the Ambassadors ice hut (main feature image), and through developing similar partnerships with winter recreation groups. Future activities might include winter season lake sampling, ice fishing demos, and interpretive skating activities on the lake.
